The Word Of God
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesThe following article was written by brother Roy Smalling, former preacher for the 6th and Jackson congregation in Odessa, Texas, emphasizing the importance of Bible study and the application of its precepts:
Living the Christian life helps us to confirm that we are on the right track. Praying to God helps us depend on Him more. But along with these and other aspects of Christianity, there is the great need to hear from God. Without God’s Word ministering to us, we will eventually starve to death spiritually.
Too many times, we struggle in our faith and become frustrated. We feel like we are dying on the vine. We just can’t seem to reclaim that spiritual “high” we were on in the past. The answer to getting back on track, is spending time studying your Bible (2 Timothy 2:15).
I’m not talking about reading words. I’m talking about studying, meditating and applying the test to your life (Psalm 1:1-2; Romans 12:2). Have a personal relationship with God on the basis of His Word. Know that He is speaking to you, addressing your needs by comforting, rebuking, correcting, etc. (2 Timothy 3:16).
I have seen God’s Word bring about change in my own life and in the lives of countless others.
