The Wages of Sin and the Gift of God

Introduction: Read Rom. 6:23.

1. No harsher reminder in scripture of the effects of sin. Two things to think about…

1) We are owed death.

2) It is our own sin for which we will receive these hideous wages.

2. In contrast Paul reveals another reality, an additional factor.

1) God has a gift for unworthy sinners.

2) The gift is eternal life.

3. We rejoice as we remember God’s amazing gift to us.

Discussion:

I. All Must Realize the Fix They’re In.

1. A sin problem, Rom. 3:23.

2. Our own sin, Eze. 18:20.

3. Causes a separation, Isa. 59:1-2.

4. Sin is lawlessness, 1 John 3:4.

5. Sin damns, Rev. 21:8.

6. The wages of sin is death! Rom. 6:23

7. Think of the hopelessness if the passage ended there!

II. It Takes God to Get Us Out of the Fix.

1. A Savior, Luke 2:11.

2. Daved from wrath, Rom. 5:8-9.

3. Deliverer, Rom. 11:26; Eph. 4:8.

Conclusion:

1. The gift of God remains unclaimed by many.

2. They haven’t realized the fix they’re in.

3. Accept the gift of God today.
