The Privilege Of Being Light-Bearers
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesThe contrast between spiritual darkness and light is a prominent picture in the Bible’s presentation of Jesus. For example, the prophet Isaiah tells us, “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined” (Isaiah 9:2).
John tells us that, “In Him [Jesus] was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it” (John 1:4-5).
As followers of Christ, it is our privilege to be His light-bearers today (2 Peter 1:19; cf. John 9:5).
Paul urged the Christians in Philippi to become “blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world” (Philippians 2:15).
Let us never be afraid of the spiritual darkness that surrounds us, but rather, allow the godly influence of our lives to shine in the hearts and minds of men, dispelling the spiritual darkness, giving glory and honor to God (Matthew 5:14-16; cf. John 15:8; Philippians 1:9-11).
