The Origin of the Bible

1. There is a question on the minds of many in this world with regard to the origin of the Bible that they are asked to trust for their salvation.
2. Where did it come from?
3. How did it get to me?
DISCUSSION:
I. THE BIBLE ORIGINATED WITH GOD THE FATHER.
1. The commandments of Moses are the commandments of God. Deuteronomy 4:2
2. The Law came directly from the Father. Exodus 20:1, 2
3. Moses wrote the words of Jehovah. Exodus 24:4; Numbers 33:2
II. THE OLD TESTAMENT ALSO CAME THROUGH THE PROPHETS BY THE HOLY SPIRIT.
1. The word of the prophets came by the Holy Spirit. Nehemiah 9:30-31
2. The word of the prophets didn’t come from the prophets. 2 Peter 1:20-21.
3. This was confirmed by:
1) Fulfillment of prophecy. Deuteronomy 18:20-22
2) Mighty works.
a. Moses, Elijah, etc.
b. Even an unnamed prophet. 1 Kings 13:1-6
III. THE NEW TESTAMENT CAME THROUGH JESUS CHRIST.
1. The Old Testament prophesies of the New. Jeremiah 31:31ff
2. Jesus shed the blood of the New Testament. Matthew 26:28
3. He was “like unto Moses.” Deuteronomy 18:18-19; Acts 3:22-23
4. Hear the Father’s voice, “Hear ye him.” Matthew 17:5
5. What you hear from Jesus originates with the Father. Hebrews 1:1-2; John 12:48-50
6. Jesus gave signs and prophecies to validate His word. Acts 2:22-24, 32; Acts 17:30-31; Matthew 24:2 (AD 70, Fall of Jerusalem.)
IV. THE NEW TESTAMENT CAME THROUGH THE APOSTLES AND PROPHETS BY THE HOLY SPIRIT.
1. Jesus gave His word to the apostles and prophets. Ephesians 3:5; John 17:8,14,20
2. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to aid remembrance and to teach. John 14:26; John 16:13; Mark 13:11
3. The apostles affirm that their words came from God. 1 Corinthians 14:37; 1 Thessalonians 2:13
4. God approves their words. Hebrews 2:3-4
With all that has been written or said about the accuracy of the Bible and the possibility of contamination by the hands of men, how can we trust that the Bible, from which we have drawn these facts, reports them accurately?
V. The Bible exhibits characteristics which, when noted, causes us to conclude, God wrote it.
1. Its unity.
2. Its historical accuracy.
3. Its scientific accuracy.
4. Fulfilled prophecy.
CONCLUSION: What is the origin of the Bible?
1. It came from the Father.
2. It came through the prophets by the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament.
3. It came through Jesus Christ in the New Testament.
4. It further came through the apostles and prophets in the New Testament.
5. It has been confirmed by the miracles and wonders and signs recorded in the Bible.
6. The veracity of the Bible is confirmed by exhibiting supernatural characteristics.
