The Greatest Song
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesHaving studied and played classical piano music for fifteen years, I fully understand the drawing power and beauty of music. I enjoy listening to and playing all genres of music, such as classical; jazz; country; big band; rock-and-roll; breakdown fiddle; western swing; flemenco; bluegrass, gospel, etc.
In Deuteronomy 32, God combines music’s power with truth to draw His people closer to Himself. The song proclaims God’s faithfulness as well as a witness against them when they settled in the Promised Land and forsook Him.
The purpose of the song is to show God’s people that although He loved them, He would not tolerate their worship of any other gods (Deuteronomy 32:7-16; cf. Exodus 20:1-5).
The greatest song that God’s people can sing today, is the song of redemption found in Revelation 5:9-14. We can sing this song, because we’ve been purchased and redeemed by the blood of the Lamb (Acts 20:28; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:12-14; Hebrews 9:12-14; 1 Peter 1:18-19; 1 John 1:7).
Because of His sacrifice for us:
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!” (Revelation 5:12).
“Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, And to the Lamb, forever and ever!” (Revelation 5:13).
