The Bible And Its Amazing Accuracy
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesWhat’s so amazing about the Bible, is its accuracy even in the physical realm. In 1860, an oceanographer by the name of Matthew Fontaine Maury, established the fact that the ocean was a circulating system because he observed the existing currents — especially those caused by the Gulf Stream.
One day when Maury was ill, his son happened to be reading Psalm 8, the context illustrating the God-given responsibility to man over the creatures of the earth that He created (cf. Genesis 1:27-28 – NKJV).
Maury’s son read Psalm 8:6-8 which states:
“You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, All sheep and oxen — Even the beasts of the field, The birds of the air, And the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas.”
After his son concluded the reading, Maury declared, “If God said there are paths in the sea, I will find them” — and he did. Not long after this event, he wrote and published a book entitled, “Wind and Current Chart of the North Atlantic,” which showed sailors how to use the ocean’s currents and winds to their advantage — dramatically reducing the length of ocean voyages.
Matthew Fontaine Maury confirmed what God had recorded in His Book centuries before regarding the ocean’s currents — “the paths of the sea” (Psalm 8:8 – NKJV). Thus the Bible is indeed accurate, not only in the spiritual realm, but in the physical realm as well (John 17:17 – NKJV; cf. Psalm 119:142 – NKJV; Psalm 119:151 – NKJV).
