Taking Jesus At His Word

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles, uncategorized

Peter had just returned from an unsuccessful night of fishing in the first portion of Luke 5-NKJV, but at Jesus’ command to let down his net into deep water, he obeyed and said:

“Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net” (Luke 5:4-5 – NKJV).

Humbled by a miraculous catch of fish, Peter bowed in awe before the Lord, who then told him that from that point on He wanted him to fish for men. Peter left everything and followed Him (Luke 5:6-11-NKJV).

When Jesus commands us to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15-NKJV), we should take Jesus at His word and “Go.”

God’s greater plan for us may not be to leave our occupation, but rather to use our time, resources, and talents to bring others into the kingdom (Matthew 10:1-15-NKJV; Matthew 25:14-23-NKJV).
