Spiritual Success Rests In God's Hands
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles Tags: Bible Lessons on SpiritualityOver the past fifty years, there have undoubtedly been countless Christians more concerned about honoring Christ than advancing themselves. Many have worked behind the scenes performing a servant’s tasks with a smiling face and joyful heart.
It would have been natural for them to have desired and even deserved the spotlight. Instead, they quietly served the Lord, joyful that they had been a part of folks being obedient to the saving gospel of Christ. It was an impressive humility, because it was completely genuine.
Harry S. Truman once said:
“It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.”
And this is certainly true of Christian service. Paul told the church at Corinth:
“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase” (1 Corinthians 3:6-7).
During his earthly ministry, Paul learned many great spiritual lessons — but none greater than the fact that spiritual success rests entirely in God’s hands (cf. Acts 9:15; Gal. 2:6-8; 1 Corinthians 15:8-11).
What we do can only be accomplished by His power and grace (2 Peter 1:2-4), and thus all of the glory must go to Him — not us (Isaiah 43:7; Matthew 5:16; John 15:5; Philippians 4:13).
