Reflections On Needless Burdens

Nothing burdens us down so needlessly as does some grudge or resentment held against someone. Resentments usually grow out of misunderstandings or from our unwillingness to honestly face some disagreeable or embarrassing situation.

Opposite conclusions are frequently drawn by two people from the same set of circumstances. Opponents oftentimes do not differ so much in their aims or objectives, as in their methods.

It is, therefore, preferable to remove areas of disagreement rather than to build up walls of prejudice (Matthew 5:25; cf. Proverbs 25:8; Luke 12:58). It is surprising how quickly resentment is removed when we try to recall the good things that may be said about our adversary.

Even our adversary, the devil, has some good qualities. He’s persistent, consistent, and never gives up (1 Peter 5:8; cf. Job 1:7).
