PROPOSITION: To set forth real liberty.

OBJECTIVE: To help us be free.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Read: Galatians 4:28-5:1.

2. Regarding the text:

1) Context of slavery: Hagar and Ishmael.

2) Specific application to the Old Testament.

3) Birthright determines freedom or slavery, not race or national origin.

4) Religious application:

a. Is religion per se freedom? Negative: Gallup Poll; Acts 17:22.

b. Is worship per se that which frees? Negative: Matthew 15:9; John 4:24.

c. Is true religion and worship that which frees? YES: John 8:32; Matthew 7:13-14; Matthew 7:21-23; James 1:27. True worship includes:

a) Teaching/learning;

b) Prayer;

c) Giving;

d) Lord’s Supper;

e) Singing.

d. True religion is entered by:

a) Hearing;

b) Believing;

c) Repentance;

d) Confessing Christ as Lord; and

e) Immersion into Christ.

3. Reference to S.T.P.O.

DISCUSSION:Real Liberty —

I.   Is NOT:

1. License to sin, 1 Peter 2:16; Galatians 5:9; Ecclesiastes 2:1; and Romans 6:20.

2. Found in materialism, Luke 12:16-21.

3. Found in rebellion, Luke 15:11-16.

4. Found in politics, civil rights, nor Americanism, 1 Corinthians 6:7; Philippians3:20.

5. Found in denominationalism, 1 Corinthians 1:10-13.

II.  Is based on Truth.

1. John 8:32.

2. 1 Peter 1:22-23.

3. This is law, James 1:25; 2:12.

4. Who attempted to sail around the world as long as men believed the earth was flat?

5. Galatians 4:16.

III. Must have limitations.

1. Matthew 21:33-46; Galatians 4:9.

1) The hedge.

2) The accountability.

2. Rail around derrick at Six Flags is NOT to prevent fun.

3. Rail around observation deck at Empire State Building is NOT to restrict fun.

IV.  Is a state of mind, a spiritual reality and location.

1. John 3:14-15.

V.   Is in slavery to Christ.

1. Freedom to do right.

2. Servant = slave.

1) Romans 1:1;

2) Philippians 1:1;

6) Colossians 3:11; and

7) Galatians 5:13.

CONCLUSION:
