Proverbially Speaking

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

From the 2008, volume 46, number 2 edition of The Sword and Staff Publication, pg. 2, comes the following proverbs of wisdom (appropriate Scriptures and related articles have been added):

  • Knowledge points the way; wisdom gets us there (Proverbs 1:1-7; Proverbs 4:1-13).
  • We reap what we sow, only in greater proportions (Gal. 6:7; cf. 2 Samuel 12:1-23).
  • If you live in the fast lane, you may find it hard to slow down to make a right turn (Luke 15:11-16).
  • The Lord’s Supper is a memorial to God’s forgetting (Matthew 26:28; Hebrews 8:12; Hebrews 9).
  • Let us preach as never sure to preach again as a dying man to dying men (2 Corinthians 4:1-14).
  • A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle and then lighting others; and likewise, by loving and helping others, we lose nothing and everyone is made to gain as our whole surroundings become aglow (Matthew 5:14-16).
  • We may not be what we think we are, but we are what we think (Proverbs 23:6-7).
  • Being a real Christian enhances your capacity to love your husband or wife even more (Ephesians 5:23-33; cf. 1 Peter 3:1-7).
