Nothing Surpasses Getting the Job Done!

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

In thinking of brother Taylor’s abilities to give us practical help in getting down to the business of personal evangelism, we also were reminded of this item, which made the rounds of the bulletins many years ago:

The company’s president had given his employees the very best of programs – every type of incentive, motivational and upbeat seminar and workshop available. Still, the productivity of the company was not up-to-par. At the same time, Rufus, son of one of the best outlets for the company’s shoes, had applied for work. The president was in a quandry. In looking over Rufus’ application, his spelling and his grammar were atrocious; in the interview he was even worse! The president had to hire him, but wisely put him on commission only, and kept him only in the outlying areas of the major city outlets to avoid so much embarrassment. Rufus went to work.

Three weeks later, Rufus sent in this:

“Dere Boss:

I done spent three weeks in the Shikagow area, and done purty good. I am mailing orders for 40,000 pare of shoes.”

In about three weeks more, he sent this:

“Dere Boss:

This Detrot area is hard to get around in, but I done hit most places, and the shoe markit is good hear to. I am sendin in orders for 58,000 pare of shoes.”

Two weeks later, again from Rufus:

“Dere Boss:

The Minnynappliss area is reel fine. I am sending in orders for 75,000 pare of shoes.”

The next week, all employees were directed to the bulletin boards for a note from the president:

“Dere Emploies:

Lookit these reports from Rufus. We done spent to much time round hear trying to spel instid of sel. Study these reports, and Rufus’ xample, and let’s git busy and git out there and do like Rufus has done done hear.

The Boss”

Again the point: Nothing surpasses getting the job done!
