Lying Lips are Abomination to the Lord

1. Men may have trouble finding the truth as Pilate did. John 18:38
2. Everything God says is truth.
1) “Thy word is truth.” John 17:17
2) It is impossible for God to lie. Hebrews 6:18
3. Knowing this, not surprising to find that God hates a lying tongue. Proverbs 12:22. A lying tongue is opposed to truth.
4. We should shun lying, no matter its apparent advantage.
DISCUSSION:
I. LYING IDENTIFIES THE LIAR WITH HIS FATHER.
1. John 8:44. For better or worse we become like our father spiritually.
2. 1 John 3:8. “he that doeth sin is of the devil.” “doeth” – present tense denoting continuous action. The one that continues in sin is of the devil.
3. There are sons of the devil in the kingdom. Matthew 13:38
4. Eternal fire is prepared for the devil and his angels. Matthew 25:41. And for his sons. Matthew 13:38-43
II. “LYING LIPS ARE ABOMINATION TO THE LORD.” Proverbs 12:22
1. Jehovah hates a lying tongue. Proverbs 6:17
2. Lying lips do not become a prince. Proverbs 17:7
3. Ananias became an abomination with his lie. Acts 5:3
4. We put things that are abominable to us far away. So does God. Rev. 21:8
III. “THEY THAT DEAL TRULY ARE HIS DELIGHT.” Proverbs 12:22
1. The tongue of the just is as choice silver. Proverbs 10:20
2. The speaker of truth shall dwell in the holy hill. Psalm 15:1f
3. He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness. Proverbs 12:17
CONCLUSION:
1. The Commands.
1) Leviticus 19:11. ye shall not…lie one to another.
2) Colossians 3:9. lie not one to another.
3) Ephesians 4:25. putting away all falsehood…speak ye truth.
4) 1 Peter 2:1. Putting away all guile.
2. Restoration
1) Lying is defined as sin. Leviticus 6:3
2) Repentance requires it. Luke 13:3
3) Can’t steal a car, repent, and keep the car.
4) Did your lie take someone’s reputation, freedom, possessions, etc.? Must remove consequences.
5) Did your lie lead someone away from the strait gate? To the best of your ability you must remove those eternal consequences. Preach the truth.
