TITLE: Reasons to Live Peaceably
PROPOSITION:In this sermon, we will study three reasons to live peaceably: 1) We know the contrast between peace and strife 2) We know the change wrought by God 3) We know the consequences of faithful–peaceable–living.
OBJECTIVE: To encourage all to live peaceably with all men.
INTRODUCTION:
1. Read: Titus 3:3-7
2. About the Text:
1) Paul is writing to Titus, a preacher.
2) He is explaining the reason as to why we should live peaceably with all men.
3) Read verses 1, 2 and Romans 12:18 “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.”

DISCUSSION: Why should we live peaceably with all men?
I. We know the Contrast between peace and strife.
1. Read verse 3–This is the life of strife!
2. Compare 1 Corinthians 6:9-11a ” Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you”
II. We know the Change wrought by God.
1. Read verses 4 and 5
2. That change was from the strifeful to the peaceable.
3. Compare 1 Cor 6:9-11 “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”
III. We know the Consequences of faithful–peaceable–living.
1. Read verses 6 and 7
2. Comfort of the Holy Spirit–cf.2 Corinthians 1:2-4 “Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”
3. Justification by grace–Romans 5:1 “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:”
4. Heirs of eternal life–Gal.4:4-7 “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”
CONCLUSION:
1. We live peaceable lives because
1) We know the contrast between peace and strife
2) We know the change wrought by God
3) We know the consequences of faithful–peaceable–living.
2. Invitation
1) We become heirs by being Abraham’s seed.
2) We become Abraham’s seed by baptism–Galatians 3:27-29 “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
