“Is Your Soul Cool? Put On A Blanket Of Prayer”
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles Tags: Bible Lessons on Prayer, Bulletin Articles on PrayerThe above titled words were on a church building marquee sign that I saw this morning while driving to do some errands. As Christians, we do indeed need to put on a blanket of prayer in order to keep our soul from becoming “cool” in serving the Lord.
Putting on a blanket of prayer will do the following:
- Cover us in time of trial and trouble (cf. Acts 12:1-10; Romans 15:30-32; 2 Thessalonians 3:1-3).
- Cover us in times of sorrow and loss (Acts 20:36-38).
- Cover us so that we may not do evil (2 Corinthians 13:7).
- Cover the “inner man” (Ephesians 3:11-16).
- Cover us so that we may open our mouths “boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel” (Ephesians 6:18-19).
- Cover us so that the peace of God will “guard our hearts and minds” from any distressing worry or fear (Philippians 4:6-7).
- Cover us to give thanks to God for His blessings (Colossians 1:3-6).
- Cover us so that we might be “filled” with the knowledge of God’s will (Colossians 1:9).
- Cover us so that we might “walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God” (Colossians 1:10-11).
- Cover us so that we may be made “complete” or spiritually steadfast (2 Corinthians 13:9; cf. 1 Thessalonians 3:10).
- Cover us to be blameless and holy (1 Thessalonians 3:13 NIV).
- Cover us in confessing our sins so that we may be “right” with God (1 John 1:5-9; cf. Psalm 32:5-7).
Let’s keep our soul “warm” by putting on a blanket of prayer, continually serving the Lord (Acts 6:4; cf. Acts 2:42).
