Is A “Little” Sinning All Right?

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

An MTV commentator was once reported as saying, “A little lust, pride, sloth, and gluttony—in moderation—are fun, and that’s what keeps your heart beating” (source).

Is there really such a thing as gluttony in moderation? How in the world can we practice excess in moderation? Although moderation is a virtue (Philippians 4:5 KJV), it can never apply to an action that is immoral.

While there is nothing wrong with eating some “lite” treats every once in a while, there is no such thing as “light lust” or “low-calorie greed.”

Folks, lust, greed, lying, stealing, drinking alcoholic beverages, or engaging in any other kind of sin in any amount, is always wrong.

Christians who are serious about pleasing the Lord will continually examine and judge their inner thoughts and motives by God‘s standard (2 Corinthians 13:5).

They’ll confess and repent of any sin in their lives (1 John 1:9), and they’ll work at disciplining their thoughts and actions (2 Corinthians 10:3-6; 1 Corinthians 9:27).

Let us thoroughly enjoy a few “lite” desserts. But let’s never fall for the idea that a “little” sinning is all right if done in moderation.
