Implications of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ – Sermon Outline

1. As sure as Jesus has been risen from the dead, you can be sure that He is the Son of God. Romans 1:4 ” And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.”

2. The prophets prophesied in this regard.

1) Psalm 2:7 “I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.”

2) John the baptizer as well was a prophet. He said, (John 1:29-34) “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.”

3. He said himself that he was the Son of God.

1) John 9:25 “Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.”

2) Matthew 16:15-17 “He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.”

4. The Apostles said he was the Son of God.

1) John — John 20:30,31 “Many other signs, therefore, . . . .”

2) Peter — Acts 3:26 “Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.”

3) Paul — Acts 9:20 “And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.”

1. As sure as Jesus was risen from the dead, you can be sure that baptism is necessary for salvation.

2. After his resurrection and before his ascension Jesus gave the apostles the great commission. He did so upon the authority of His resurrection.

1) Matthew 28:18-20 says, “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying…”

2) Mark 16:15-16 says, “And he said unto them, Go ye…”

3. Paul states in Romans 6:1-10 that baptism is in the likeness of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

1) “Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized…”

2) We are made alive in God through the resurrection of Jesus.

3) Where is that resurrection manifested today? Through baptism.

4. Paul writes in Colossians 2:12 that Baptism is our statement of faith that we believe Jesus was raised from the dead.

1) “Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.”

2) Literally, “Buried with him in baptism in whom also ye are raised with (him) through the belief of the working of God of the resurrecting Him out of death.”

3) Just as he was alive after resurrection, so also we are alive (spiritually) after baptism.

4) This means that before baptism we are spiritually “dead.”

5. Peter writes in 1 Peter 3:21 that the power of the resurrection to save is in baptism: “The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ”

1. Jesus said upon the occasion of Lazarus resurrection in John 11:24-26 “Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”

2. Peter writes in 1 Peter 1:3 that our hope for resurrection is based upon His resurrection: ” Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead”

3. Paul writes numerous times concerning the relationship of Jesus resurrection to our resurrection.

1) 1 Corinthians 15:20, 21 “But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.”

2) 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 ” But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, …”

1. Jesus said in John 5:28-29 “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.”

2. Paul told the Athenians in Acts 17:30-31 “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead”

3. 2 Corinthians 5:1-10 “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved…”
