Drawing A True Picture Of God
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesThe story is told of a kindergarten teacher who once gave her students a piece of paper and told them to draw on it whatever picture they pleased. As she passed around the room, she noticed one child seemed very intent on her picture.
The teacher asked, “What are you drawing?” The student answered, “I’m drawing a picture of God.” The teacher replied, “But sweetheart, no one knows what God looks like.” To which the child answered, “They will in a minute!”
Brethren and friends, each day that we live, we are drawing a picture of God for the world to see. Our portrait will either reflect a stern and merciless God, or a merciful and loving God. When people look at our behavior and how we treat others, they form a mental picture of the God we worship and serve.
As we study, meditate upon, and make application of God’s word, let us draw the world a true picture of the living God by our manner of life — it’s the only picture of God that most folks will ever see (Matthew 5:14-16 NKJV; 1 Peter 2:11-12 NKJV). Also note the word “conduct” [conversation or behavior] in Philippians 1:27 NKJV; 1 Timothy 4:12 NKJV; James 3:13 NKJV; 1 Peter 1:15 NKJV; 1 Peter 3:1-2 NKJV; 2 Peter 3:11 NKJV.
