Delight In The Law Of The Lord!

He realized how much the Bible meant to him and how greatly he needed its strength, but he could not read the Bible in Braille because of his artificial hands. He tried to place his lips on the dots, but they were numb. He found he could use his tongue to decipher the Moon Type system of dashes. The metal left his tongue bleeding and very sore, but in sixty-five years he read the Bible through four times with his tongue!
After reading this tragic story, the following questions came to my mind:
1) Would I study the Bible if the same thing happened to me that happened to Mr. McPherson?
2) Would I have the same intense desire to know God’s will that I would go through what he did in order to learn God’s will for my life?
How feeble our excuses are made to appear by Mr. McPherson’s example! Do we fail to read and study God’s Word because we have seemingly a “hard day” and we are just “too tired”? Or because we do not want to “miss” our favorite TV program? Or because we are slow readers and it just takes “too long” to read a chapter?
Will not the example of Mr. McPherson haunt you (and me) the next time we are tempted to miss Bible study and worship?
We need to continually keep in our minds what David said about the “happy man” of Psalm 1:1-2, “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”
Conclusion
May we continually thank God for the blessed privilege and ability to study His word and make application of it in our lives (Philippians 1:9-11; Colossians 1:7-10)!
