INTRODUCTION:
1. Read: Colossians 3:18-25
2. About the Text:
1) Sometimes we get the idea that Christianity does not extend outside of the walls of the church building.
2) Some reason that they may behave however they want in their own personal life.
3) To the contrary, the Bible teaches that Christ is King over all our life.
4) This includes my home and work life.
5) What does Christ have to say about this?

DISCUSSION: Christ is King of the Home and He has some teaching for . . .
I. Wives (v.18)
1. “Wives submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.”
2. The word “submit” means to obey, be subject to, subordinate.
3. The word “fitting” here means “as it is due to one, as is becoming.”
4. “In the Lord” indicates that this is the relationship that a Christian wife should sustain with her Christian husband.
5. Maybe the world does not agree with this teaching, but this is the teaching of Christ as King of the Home.
6. “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything” (Ephesians 5:22-24).
7. “The older women … admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed” (Titus 2:3-4).
8. “Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— 4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God” (1 Peter 3:3-4).
II. Husbands (v.19)
1. “Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them.”
2. This is “agape” love; seeking the highest good for another.
3. The word “bitter” means exasperated, irritated, angry, or grievous.
4. In other words, a husband needs to have patience with his wife.
5. “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones” (Ephesians 5:25-30).
6. “Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered” (1 Peter 3:7).
7. “Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you” (Titus 2:6-8).
III. Children (v.20)
1. If father and mother are following Christ’s kingship, the children will see that also.
2. “Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.”
3. “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother,’ which is the first commandment with promise: ‘that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth’” (Ephesians 6:1-2).
IV. Parents (v.21)
1. “Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.”
2. “And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).
3. “For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him” (Genesis 18:19).
4. “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up” (Deuteronomy 6:6-7).
5. “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).
V. Servants (v.22-25)
1. “Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality.”
2. “Bondservants, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ; not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, with goodwill doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men, knowing that whatever good anyone does, he will receive the same from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free. And you, masters, do the same things to them, giving up threatening, knowing that your own Master also is in heaven, and there is no partiality with Him” (Ephesians 6:5-9).
