“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).

We live in a broken and confused world, filled with misunderstanding and sin. Many people, caught up in the pleasures and deception of sin, do not realize how such things ruin their hearts, relationships, and lives.

God calls lawlessness and unrighteousness sin (1 John 3:4; 5:17). He doesn’t distinguish right from wrong and righteousness from sin arbitrarily. Because God sees and knows all, He sees how sin ruins and hurts us. He calls wickedness and lawlessness sin, because He loves us and doesn’t want sin to deceive, enslave, and cause us to die spiritually.

Sin begins with deception, but people lie to themselves thinking sin isn’t all that bad. “Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company corrupts good morals’” (1 Corinthians 15:33). “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life” (Galatians 6:7-8).

The Lord Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin” (John 8:34). Thankfully the Lord has a solution! “So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed” (8:36). The Lord sets us free through His blood and the gospel.

The solution to our broken world is Jesus! Thomas O. Chism wrote: “Bring Christ your broken life, so marred by sin. He will create anew, make whole again. Your empty wasted years He will restore, and your iniquities remember no more.”
