10) What happened after Jesus was baptized? Jesus prayed (Luke 3:21), the Holy Spirit “descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased” (Luke 3:22). Following this Jesus was immediately led by the Spirit into […]
Shortly after Simon Peter made his confession to Jesus (Matthew 16:13-20 – NKJV), the gospel account next records the following exchange between Master and disciple: “From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be […]
Although there are still many good, noble, and admirable qualities about America, there is much that needs to be corrected in the thinking of the American people. I love my country and served four years of my life overseas in service to my country. There is no country in which I would rather live than […]
In Mark 12:41-44, the text reads: “And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, […]
The word “novice” appears only once in the New Testament in 1 Timothy 3:6. In this passage, the apostle Paul is describing for Timothy the necessary qualifications of a man who would be appointed a “bishop” ? in other passages called “elder” (1 Timothy 5:19) or “overseer” (Acts 20:28) in the local church. Of the […]

A querist asks, “I believe that Jesus was tempted in every way we are today. The question I am wondering is why are there only three mentioned in the Bible. These three didn’t seem like the most tempting things he could have faced. Why doesn’t the Bible mention any of the others?” The Bible teaches […]
You’ve heard the saying, “Give a man a fish, and he’ll eat for a day; teach a man to fish, and he’ll eat for a lifetime.” Relative to God’s word, we might express this principle this way: “Teach a man what the Bible says, and he has knowledge for a day; teach a man to […]
In the book of Job we are taken back to a time that predates the Mosaic law or, at the very least, is outside the reach of it. Many Bible students place this book at the time of or before Abraham (about 2000 BC). The worship depicted within marks it as part of the Patriarchal […]
In 586 B.C., Judah was taken captive into Babylon (2 Kings 25:8-21; Jeremiah 52). At the time this captivity took place, Jerusalem was plundered by the conquering people and then burned (2 Kings 25:8-9; Nehemiah 1:3). After toiling for 70 years in captivity, a remnant of the people was allowed to return to the land. […]
Prophecy is foretelling an even in such detail before it happens so as to necessarily require divine guidance. The Bible is a book containing hundreds of detailed prophecies. There are, for example, well over sixty distinct predictions in regard to our divine Savior Jesus Christ. Not only were some these predictions made one thousand years […]
In Matthew 18:1-6, Jesus gives some very important qualifications for those who would enter the kingdom of heaven. He would say, “Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.” Notice that this is something all who wish to enter that heavenly abode must do. But […]
A study of Bible “types” and “antitypes” is a fascinating study. A “type” is defined as: “A biblical person, thing, action, event, ceremony, structure, furniture, number, etc. that prefigures an ‘antitype’ of the same in the New Testament”. Merriam-Webster’s dictionary provides this simple definition: “a person or thing (as in the Old Testament) believed to […]
The atoning blood of Christ is important as we think of Christ’s sacrifice made for all mankind through the shedding of His blood at the cross (Hebrews 9:12-14; cf. Ephesians 1:7; 1 John 1:7). The blood of Christ also motivates Christians to reflect upon His suffering and death (1 Peter 2:24). Through examination of the […]
A querist asks, In Revelation 10:8-10 – NKJV, what was the “little book” that John was commanded to eat, making his belly bitter and the inside of his mouth sweet as honey. According to Revelation 10:11 – NKJV, it was the ability to “prophesy again” which completes the context and explains the previous verses. The […]

A young, new preacher was walking with an older, more seasoned preacher in the garden one day. Feeling a bit insecure about what God had for him to do, he was asking the older preacher for some advice.
Repent or Perish! In Luke 13:1-5, some of Jesus’ disciples approached Him to relate the terrible news that some Galilean Jews had been murdered under the authority of the Roman governor Pontius Pilate. In addition to that heinous act, Pilate had desecrated the sacrifice of these slain Jews by dumping their blood onto it. Undoubtedly, […]

As Bible teachers, how often have we made a careful research to re-evaluate some former conclusion we had made concerning the Scriptures, and found ourselves in error? While being in error is not
