Another Birthday Rolls Around

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

Well, another birthday has rolled around for this writer. It seems as though they roll around more often as each successive year goes by. For example, the last ten years have really speeded by, seemingly in a two year period of time! A lot of water has run under the bridge during this past year, as I lost my wife to a nursing care facility because of vascular dementia, then I lost my dad due to old age, and finally, I lost my little dachshund dog because of old age and health issues.

But praise God, I still have my many Christian friends around the world on Facebook and Twitter, who provide me with great comfort, encouragement and joy during these very trying times. And I’m thankful for the job the Lord has provided me within our local school district, teaching young children a little about the function of a library and librarian, along with hopefully providing them with a little godly wisdom along the way.

One thing I’ve learned through all of the above experiences, is that neither time nor life stands still. These two variables are always constantly moving and changing — never staying the same. The only constant and unchanging entity that we can grab hold of, is that Rock of Ages (Isaiah 26:4 Darby) — that Rock in Whom we can place our complete trust and confidence (Proverbs 3:5-6; Proverbs 3:26).

While I don’t know specifically what the future holds for me, I do know Who holds the future, and that He has some kind of future plans for me (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV). I also know that God does and will listen to my prayers (Jeremiah 29:12). And if I continually seek Him with all of my heart, He will not be hard to find (Jeremiah 29:13-14 NIV; cf. Acts 17:27; Deuteronomy 4:29; Psalm 145:18).

My prayer is that God will richly bless each Christian friend and family that faithfully follow this blog and who share these Bible-based articles with others around the world as well as the saving gospel of Christ (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-16).

May we be illuminating and guiding lights in the world (Philippians 2:12-16; cf. Ephesians 5:8), and may God ever be glorified in our service to Him (Matthew 5:14-16; cf. Isaiah 43:7), until we all can forever associate ourselves with our Heavenly Father (Revelation 21:1-4) in that eternal inheritance (1 Peter 1:4).
