The Scriptures tell us that Jesus was indeed in the flesh for a period of forty days (Luke 24:39; John 20:20; John 20:26-27; Acts 1:3) in which period of time Christ was seen, touched and handled by various groups of people (1 Corinthians 15:5-7; 1 John 1:1-2; cf. Matthew 28:1-9; Luke 24:13-15; Luke 24:34; Luke 24:33-36; Luke 24:50; John 20:19; John 20:26; John 21:4; John 21:14).
According to Paul’s teaching in 1 Corinthians 15:50, our fleshly, mortal bodies cannot inherit the immortal kingdom or state, therefore, when Christ ascended back into heaven (Acts 1:9-11), His body was changed into an incorruptible body (1 Corinthians 15:53). At Christ’s return, our corruptible bodies will be changed into an incorruptible body like our Saviour’s body (1 Corinthians 15:51-53; Philippians 3:20-21; cf. 1 Corinthians 15:42-44; Colossians 3:4).
