The Essential Nature Of The Gospel
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesThe core of the gospel can be found in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4-NKJV. Paul briefly refers to it in 1 Corinthians 2:1-2-NKJV; cf. Gal. 6:14-NKJV).
In the rush to find exciting new ideas in our ever changing religious world, often left behind is the essential nature or core of the gospel. The apostle Paul was astonished that folks so readily embraced a “different gospel” (Gal. 1:6-NKJV). What he preached was not from man, but from a direct revelation from Jesus Himself (Gal. 1:11-12-NKJV; cf. Ephesians 3:1-6-NKJV).
We must never let go of that core gospel: Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again for our justification, declaring those who are obedient to that core gospel, righteous before God (1 Corinthians 15:3-4-NKJV; cf. Romans 4-NKJV; Romans 5:1-11-NKJV; Romans 6:1-11-NKJV).
The gospel alone is the “power of God to salvation for everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16-NKJV). Thus, if we want to receive God’s salvation, we need to diligently look into the saving gospel of Christ, and then be obedient to it (2 Timothy 2:15-ASV; Hebrews 5:8-9-NKJV; James 1:22-NKJV; James 1:25-NKJV).
