Whatever Happened To Standing Up For What Is Right?

As the Boy Scouts of America were deciding today whether or not to allow gay kids and teens into their membership, this writer and disciple of Christ was praying and hoping that they would stand their ground, retain their membership guidelines, and not allow a very small segment of our society to override those guidelines.
Sad to say, according to this NBC News article, the organization that was founded by Chicago publisher William D. Boyce on February 8, 1910 (see brief history), obviously succumbed to worldly pressure from without the organization under the guise of “equality.” The homosexual movement has blinded the eyes of many in our government and society in the past twenty to thirty years, by declaring that the discrimination of the homosexual is no different than discriminating against people who are of a different race or religion.
However, homosexuality and the homosexual lifestyle has absolutely nothing to do with race or religious preferences, but everything to do with human morality [a doctrine or system of morals]. That doctrine or system of morals that is found within the pages of God’s divine and inerrant Word, the Bible (see article 1 and article 2).
God’s doctrine of morality declares that homosexuality is a perversion of the natural order of things, which includes human behavior (Romans 1:21-28) and is highly condemned in the New Testament writings of the inspired writer, Paul (1 Corinthians 6:9-10 ESV). Paul tells us that such individuals who engage in this perverted behavior will not inherit the kingdom of God — in fact, nothing of a defiling nature will be found in that heavenly city (Revelation 21:27).
Because of their unwillingness to “retain God in their knowledge,” God gave those individuals who practiced this perversion in the first century, over to “a reprobate mind” (Romans 1:28 KJV) [marginal reading: “a mind void of judgment”]. Do we really think that the unchanging God (Malachi 3:6) will not do the same in the twenty-first century?
Whatever happened to standing up for what is right? — not succumbing to the pressures of an ungodly society. Remember, if we are in the right, God stands with us, no matter what the majority may say or do (Acts 4:13-20; Acts 5:17-29).
What can we as individual citizens do to turn our nation around from the immoral path that we are on to a God-approved path? (Isaiah 35:8). Brother Dave Miller of Apologetics Press has one viable solution (see below quote at the conclusion of this article). There are other biblical solutions as well (Psalm 78:1-8; cf. Deuteronomy 6:1-9; Deuteronomy 11:13-21; Proverbs 22:6; Ephesians 6:1-4).
“The only hope for America is to experience a nationwide spiritual awakening by returning to God and begging His forgiveness. “‘Return to Me, and I will return to you,’ says the Lord of hosts” (Malachi 3:7). Our only hope is for a sizeable percentage of Americans to rise up and act upon the factuality of the psalmist’s words: “Let all the earth fear the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him …. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12). God help us. If it be His will, may God save the United States of America.”
Brethren and friends, may the God of heaven provide us with the boldness, strength and fortitude to stand up for what is right in His sight, even in the face of seemingly overwhelming odds (1 Kings 19:1-18; cf. Romans 11:1-5), in Jesus’ name, Amen!
