What We Should Give Our Enemies
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesAccording to the inspired Scriptures, there are some things we should give our enemies that will glorify God (Matthew 5:16 – NKJV; Matthew 5:45 – NKJV).
- The other cheek, submissively enduring insults as our Lord did (Matthew 5:39 – NKJV; cf. Matthew 22:67 – NKJV; Luke 22:63-64 – NKJV).
- Our cloak (used as a covering) to protect him from the elements (Matthew 5:40 – NKJV; cf. Exodus 22:26-27 – NKJV).
- An extra mile to help them (Matthew 5:41 – NKJV; cf. James 2:15-17 – NKJV).
- What our enemy asks for that he needs (Matthew 5:42 – NKJV; cf. Deuteronomy 15:7-10 – NKJV; 1 John 3:17-18 – NKJV).
- To love them (do what is best for them – Matthew 7:12 – NKJV), bless them, do good to them, and pray for them (Matthew 5:44 – NKJV) as our Lord did (Romans 5:8 – NKJV; Acts 10:38 – NKJV; Luke 23:34 – NKJV).
- Something to eat and drink for sustenance (Romans 12:20 – NKJV; cf. Proverbs 25:21-22 – NKJV).
While we are to resist evil (James 4:7 – NKJV), we are not to overcome evil with evil but rather “evil with good” (Romans 12:21 – NKJV; cf. 1 Samuel 24:16-19 – NKJV).
