What Is The Apocrypha?
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesA querist asks, “What is the Apocrypha, and is it needed in the Bible?”
The word, “Apocrypha” is a transliterated form of the Greek term “apokruphos” meaning “hidden” (cf. Colossians 2:3), and has come to be applied to those books that do not bear the marks of divine inspiration.
These books are a collection of documents, generally produced between the 2nd century B.C. and the 1st century A.D., which were not a part of the original Old Testament canon.
