What About The Rapture Tomorrow?
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesThe Family Radio folks, located in Oakland, California, tells us regarding the so-called rapture on their website: “We learn from the Bible that Holy God plans to rescue about 200 million people (that is about 3% of today’s population). On the first day of the Day of Judgment (May 21, 2011) they will be caught up (raptured) into Heaven because God had great mercy for them” (Note: this statement has since been removed from the Family Radio website).
Folks, the word “rapture” is not found in the Scriptures. The term is derived from the Latin “rapio,” which means “to seize” or “to snatch.” It is taken from the Latin translation of the Greek word, harpagesometha (from harpazo–Strong’s 726), “shall be caught up” (cf. 1 Thessalonians 4:17 KJV).
With this information in mind, the following studies of the Rapture by faithful gospel preachers and teachers are provided:
- The “Left Behind” Series – a study of the rapture by Wayne Jackson.
- Repudiation of the “Rapture” – a study of the rapture by Dave Miller of Apologetics Press.
- “A Study Of The Rapture” – a short study of the rapture by Mike Riley.
- The Rapture – A study of the rapture by Keith Sharp.
The bottom line is that the so-called “Rapture” is a false teaching promulgated by those who desire to make money from books they have written, preying on gullible people (2 Peter 2:1-3 NLT – see Coffman commentary).
