What About Casting Lots Today?

Among the Jews, lots were used with the expectation that God would so control them as to give a right direction to them. They were often used by God’s appointment (cf. Proverbs 16:33; Numbers 26:52-56; 1 Samuel 14:41-42; Acts 1:24-26).
The casting of lots is no longer necessary today because we have the complete revelation of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17; James 1:25; 2 Peter 1:3; Jude 1:3). Since man now has God’s complete revelation, he no longer needs to use the lot method. He can now fully “understand what the will of the Lord is” (Ephesians 5:17; cf. Romans 12:2; Ephesians 3:4-6).
