We Cannot Deceive God!
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles, uncategorizedWhen Paul said, “Be not deceived, God is not mocked” (Galatians 6:7), his point was not whether or not men may speak evil of God, nor how much they might defy His appeal for righteous living (1 Peter 1:15). But men are deceived when they believe they escape the consequences of their behavior. Though we would like to think our deeds are hidden from His eyes, we cannot deceive God! We become deceived when we “think” we can deceive God.
We will give an account before God and we will receive in the next world according to what we have sown in this world! (2 Corinthians 5:10). A denial of God may make a person feel less guilty for transgression, and a rejection of hell may remove the terror of being condemned to eternal punishment for dissipation and rebellion, but neither action changes the reality of accountability before the Lord, the ultimate authority (Matthew 28:18; John 17:1-2).
Since every creature is naked and open before his sight (Hebrews 4:12-13), we should not be deceived, but be wise enough to sow spiritually in order that we might reap eternal, spiritual things (Matthew 6:19-21; 1 Timothy 6:17-19). What are we sowing? A harvest is inevitable, and the kind of harvest is invariably the same as the seed sown (Gal. 6:8; cf. Job 4:8).
