Two Stories Expressing A Profound Truth

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles, uncategorized

The story is told of a mother, who at the outbreak of a thunderstorm, rushed upstairs to check on her son who had just been put to bed. She was certain that he had to be panic-stricken because of the severity of the lightning and the thunder. However, when she got to his room, she found him looking out the window, his eyes bright with excitement, shouting with every majestic clap of thunder, “Bang it again God! Bang it again!”

Another story is told of a little boy who one day came in and told his mother that he had been playing ball with God. Being puzzled as to what he meant, she asked him how he was playing ball with God. The little boy replied, “I throw the ball up and God throws it back.”

In simple, unsophisticated, uncomplicated and unconfused ways, the two boys in the above stories were expressing a profound truth about this world — the truth that God created it (Genesis 1:1), sustains it (Colossians 1:17; Hebrews 1:1-3; cf. Nehemiah 9:6), and still works in it and through it (Romans 8:18-28).

Praise God from all blessings flow! (James 1:17; cf. John 3:27).
