This Is What It Looks Like To Follow Jesus

Categories: Easy Sermons to Preach, Sermon Outlines, Short Sermon Outlines, Short Sermons, Textual Sermon Outlines

Introduction: Matt. 8:18-22

1. In your priority list, where is the will of Christ?

1) Above personal comfort?

2) Above even family?

2. Jesus makes it plain that one must follow him above all other considerations.

Discussion:

I.   Personal Comfort

1. Apostles were warned, Luke 21:12.

2. Live godly – shall suffer persecution, 2 Tim. 3:12.

3. Crucified with Christ, Gal. 2:20; Luke 9:23.

II.  Family Concerns

1. Two ideas to be crushed.

1) “Family comes first.”

2) “Service to God can wait.”

2. Jesus held his family as high priority but not above duty, Matt. 12:47-50.

3. Apostles our examples, Matt. 4:18-20; 21-22; Mark 10:28-30.

Conclusion:

1. You’ll not find the true servant of Jesus putting personal comfort first.

2. Nor will you see the true servant of Jesus putting family first.

3. Jesus modeled this, as did the apostles.
