“There Is No Other Name Under Heaven”
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesThe story is told of a successful businessman who made this statement: “Almost every religion talks about a savior coming. When you look in the mirror in the morning, you’re looking at the savior. Nobody else is going to save you but yourself.”
As Christians, we do not agree with that human philosophy, because it is in direct contradiction to the gospel. The Bible teaches the exact opposite of such a self-sufficient confidence. The apostle Peter said of Jesus:
“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
There’s no question that we cannot save ourselves. We can be saved only by God’s Son — our Savior — who lived a sinless life (2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 9:28; 1 Peter 2:21-22), died as the perfect sacrifice for our sins (Hebrews 10:11-12, and successfully rose from the grave (Matthew 28:6; 1 Corinthians 15:4; 1 Corinthians 15:20; 1 Peter 1:3).
If we haven’t already, let’s willingly submit to the terms of the saving gospel of Christ today.
