The Bonds of Christian Family

Categories: Sermon Outlines, Topical Sermon Outlines

Sermon outline by Kevin Cauley on the Christian Family. How those who are born of God become sons of God and comprise the house of God and the family of God.

Subject: Family

Title: The Bonds of Christian Family

Proposition: As Christians, we are bonded together as family because: 1) we have the same birth, 2) we have the same worth, 3) we have the same Father.

Objectives: Each hearer should be able to understand the bonds that tie us together as a Christian family.

Aim: To strengthen the bond between us as a Christian family.

Introduction:

1. Read: 1 Timothy 3:15

2. About the Text:

1) The house of God is the church of God.

2) The term “house” in the Bible often meant family.

3) We are truly God’s family.

4) Let’s talk about being bound together as God’s family.

5) There are two songs that we sing that really go along with this.

6) “Bind Us Together” by Bob Gillman (847)

7) “God’s Family” by Lanny Wolfe (855)

3. Ref. to S, T, P, O, and A.

Discussion: We are bonded together as a family because…

I.   We have the same birth.

1. Those who are born of God are born of the word — James 1:18; 1 Peter 1:23.

2. Those who are born of God are part of the family — John 3:4-7.

3. Those who are born of God do righteousness. 1 John 2:29

4. Those who are born of God do not continue in sin. 1 John 3:9; 1 John 5:18

5. Those who are born of God love their brethren. 1 John 4:7

6. Those who are born of God believe in Jesus. 1 John 5:1

7. Those who are born of God overcome the world. 1 John 5:4

II.  We have the same worth.

1. Our lives are of equal value.

1) No Jew or Gentile. 1 Cor. 12:13 “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.”

2) No male or female. Gal. 3:28 “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”

3) No bond or free. Col. 3:11 “Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.”

4) No rich or poor. James 2:9 “But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.”

5) God is no respecter of persons; are we?

2. Our love is of equal value.

1) We must love one another equally — 1 Peter 1:22 “Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:”

2) We must not use our liberty as an occasion to lapse outside of love — Galatians 5:13 “For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.”

3) We must love without hypocrisy — Romans 12:9-18

3. Our living is of equal value.

1) We all have the same unchangeable standard — Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”

2) We all must live by the same standard — Phil. 3:16 “Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.”

3) We must walk by faith — 2 Cor. 5:7

4) Faith comes from hearing the word (Rom. 10:17).

III. We all have the same Father.

1. He has given his only begotten son for us.

1) John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

2) 1 John 4:9 “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.”

2. He has adopted us into his family.

1) Rom. 8:15 “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.”

2) Gal. 4:4-5 “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.”

3) Eph. 1:5 “Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,”

3. We are now his children.

1) We are children through faith in Christ. Galatians 2:26 “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.”

2) What great love we must have from God to be called his children. “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God:” (1 John 3:1).

3) We are to be obedient children; 1 Peter 1:13-14. “Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:”

Conclusion:

1. Have you given attention to your Christian family lately?

2. Let’s remember the things that bind us together
