Some Thoughts On Bereavement

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

BereavementThere’s no question that death brings changes and adjustments for those who are left behind. The close warmth and associations of former days are gone. The silence, finality, and the inability to communicate disturb us, but for the one who has triumphed, there is close association with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 1:20-23).

Our grieving tends to be centered more on self than on the deceased. We sorrow at the passing of loved ones, yet we would not want our sorrow taken from us, even if it could be, for our love is wrapped up along with our sorrow. It is the price we pay for love.

Let us be encouraged by the following quotes:

Life is eternal as we move into the light and the horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight” (source); and “Death is not extinguishing the light, but merely putting out the lamp because the dawn has come” (source).
