Singing Unto The Lord

The subject of singing either “with” or “without” musical instruments has been debated throughout the brotherhood for many years. It is not this writer’s intent to “continue” that debate in this article. My only intent is to make a few observations and comments concerning our worship to our heavenly Father through the teaching medium of “singing”. With this in mind, let us “think” about the following scriptural aspects of our “singing unto the Lord”:
How Do We Sing Unto The Lord?
1) With a prepared heart – Psalm 57:7; Psalm 108:1; Ephesians 5:18-19; Colossians 3:16.
2) With an understanding heart – Psalm 47:7; 1 Corinthians 14:15.
3) With our whole heart – Psalm 9:1-2; Psalm 111:1; Ephesians 5:19.
Why Do We Sing Unto The Lord?
1) Because God has done many excellent things – Isaiah 12:5.
2) Because God has dealt bountifully with us – Psalm 13:6.
3) Because God is great – Psalm 95:3.
4) Because God is king – Psalm 47:6-7.
5) Because God is good – Psalm 135:3.
6) To teach and admonish one another – Ephesians 5:18-19; Colossians 3:16.
Because Of Who God Is And What God Has Done, We Sing Unto The Lord:
1) To rejoice – Psalm 71:23; Zechariah 2:10.
2) To bless God – Psalm 96:2.
3) With thanksgiving – Psalm 147:7.
4) With joy – Psalm 27:6; Isaiah 65:14.
5) To honor and praise God – Psalm 66:2.
6) With gladness – Jeremiah 31:7.
