Series Intro – Back To the Bible Pattern

Categories: Sermon Outlines

Date written: October 5th, 2001
Scripture ref: Ezekiel 43:10-11

SUBJECT: Gospel Meeting Theme Introduction

TITLE: Back to the Bible Pattern

PROPOSITION: In this gospel meeting we will look at going back to the Bible Pattern. We must understand that God’s word is a pattern for our lives today. That it provides a pattern for Authority, Salvation, Worship, the Church, and Faithfulness. These will be the subjects of each evening’s discussions.

OBJECTIVES: The listener should be able to show how the Bible is our pattern and that the Bible provides a pattern for the subjects of discussion each evening.

AIM: I hope to establish and reinforce in the listeners mind the fundamental truth that we must view the Bible as a pattern for our lives.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Read: Ezekiel 43:10-11 “Thou son of man, shew the house to the house of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities: and let them measure the pattern. And if they be ashamed of all that they have done, shew them the form of the house, and the fashion thereof, and the goings out thereof, and the comings in thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the laws thereof: and write it in their sight, that they may keep the whole form thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and do them.”

2. About the Text:

1) Ezekiel had been carried away into Babylonian captivity in 597 B.C.

2) The temple in Jerusalem was destroyed in 587 B.C.

3) Ezekiel is thus prophesying to help Israel remember the ways of God while in captivity. Ezekiel6:9,10.

4) In the twentieth year of captivity, in Ezekiel40-42 Ezekiel prophesies regarding the restoration of the temple of God. This vision that Ezekiel has represents God’s law.

5) He calls for the people to “measure the pattern” that they may keep all of God’s ordinances.

3. God’s house today is the church (1 Tim.3:15).

4. In order for us to restore God’s house today, we must “measure the pattern.”

5. To do this, we must go back to the Bible and find the pattern that God has set forth.
