PROPOSITION: To develop the art of perseverance we need 1) Tests, 2) Truth, 3) Time, 4) Trust.
OBJECTIVE: That we would value the quality of perseverance in our lives and learn to develop it as we seek to walk in the Christian faith.

SUBJECT: Jesus
TITLE: “Man of Sorrows”
PROPOSITION: Why was Jesus a man of sorrows? Jesus was a man of sorrows because 1) though He was the Son of God, yet He chose to live as a servant, 2) though He proved his message to be true, many rejected it, 3) though He was innocent, yet He bore the sins of many.
OBJECTIVES: Each listener should be able to state why the prophet described Jesus as a “man of sorrows.”
INTRODUCTION:
A. Probably one of the most familiar stories in the Bible is the one of David and Goliath.
1. It is a story of a shepherd’s bravery and trust in God
2. It is a story about a young man being prepared
B. The Battle Scene (1 Sam. 17:1-3)
1. Envision in your mind two mountains with a large valley running between them
2. On the one mountain you have the Israelites and on the other you have the Philistines — both come to battle

TITLE: Christian Attitude Toward Wealth
PROPOSITION: The Christian attitude toward wealth should recognize, 1) our relationship with God regarding wealth, 2) the reasons God has given for wealth, 3) the problems associated with wealth.
OBJECTIVES:The hearer should be able to understand their responsibilities and attitudes toward wealth.
AIM:I want everyone to have a proper, healthy, and reverent attitude toward the teaching within the Bible regarding wealth.

A. A person may be faithful church-goer and live a morally good life, and yet harbor enough “envy” in his heart to damn his soul
1. “Envy” is a common sin, with almost every person having some problem with this green-eyed monster at some time or another.
2. Yet, it is a seldom confessed sin!
B. “Envy” has been pictured as a devilish thing with wide ears for catching slander, with a tongue that is a serpent, and with feet standing in fire as a symbol of the wretchedness that always dogs its steps.
C. Socrates said, “Envy is the daughter of pride, the author of murder and revenge, the begetter of secret sedition, the perpetual tormenter of virtue. Envy is the filthy slime of the soul; a venom, a poison, a quicksilver, which consumeth the flesh and drieth up the bones.”
SUBJECT: Worldliness
TITLE: “Remember Lot’s Wife”
PROPOSITION: When we remember Lot’s wife, we remember her 1) Circumstances, 2) Conflict, 3) Conclusion.
Objectives: That each would learn from Jesus’ command to remember Lot’s wife.
Aim: To avoid making the same mistakes that Lot’s wife made in our spiritual lives.

1) In the context, Jesus is speaking about the unexpectedness of judgment.

A. Matthew 7:24-29
1. As this passage begins with “therefore” it is certain these statements of the Lord are rooted in the preceding passage.
2. In fact, they are a fitting conclusion to the entire “Sermon on the Mount.”
3. If we do not put these sayings of Christ to practice, i.e. the teachings of the Sermon on the Mount, our spiritual house will fall in this life and come to utter ruin in the world to come.

A. When Jesus spoke about “Responding To Evil”, He laid down two principles:
1. Do not resist an evil person (Mt. 5:39a)
2. Respond to evil by doing good (Mt. 5:39b-42)

PROPOSITION: In this beatitude we find 1) A desire. 2) The object of that desire. 3) The satisfying of that desire.
Objectives: Each one should be able to state what it means to hunger and thirst after righteousness and how that relates to being filled.
Aim: To help all have a better understanding of the beatitudes.
