Proverbially Speaking

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

From the 2010, volume 48, number 3 edition of The Sword and Staff publication, pg. 2, comes the following proverbs of wisdom (appropriate Scriptures and related articles have been added):

  • Christianity sanctifies everything it touches (John 17:17-19; Ephesians 5:25-26; 1 Peter 1:18-22).
  • The closer I follow the Bible and the closer you follow the Bible, the closer it should draw us one to another (Romans 12:10).
  • It is in getting ready to die that we really learn how to live (2 Kings 20:1-6; cf. James 4:13-15).
  • Never loan more money than what you would be willing to give away, and never borrow more money than that you can repay.
  • When people say that you are wrong when you are standing for the right, there is something wrong.
  • In singing hymns, the purpose is to be understood (Colossians 3:16), not to drown out the words with noise (1 Corinthians 14:15-16,40).
  • If we resist the truth, it will only make our hearts more hardened and set in error (Hebrews 3:5-12; cf. 1 Timothy 4:1-2; Ephesians 4:17-19).
  • The best way to get rid of your enemies is to make them your friends (Matthew 5:44; Romans 12:17-21; cf. 1 Samuel 24:16-19).
  • When the church assembles, a Christian doesn’t have to think whether he will attend or not; that was taken care of when he was baptized (Hebrews 10:16-25).
