Proverbially Speaking

- Under grace, sin is still sin; that is why grace is grace (Romans 6:1-2).
- The Lord came to save us “from” our sins (Matthew 1:21), not “in” our sins (Acts 26:18).
- Don’t expect to get much out of life if you don’t put much into it (Proverbs 19:24; Proverbs 26:13-15).
- The covers of a book are what we see, but more important is that which is in between.
- The reward of a thing well done is to have done it and done it well (cf. Matthew 25:19-23 – note the phrase, “well done.“
- “Loneliness” and “solitude” may refer to the same situation, but which one it is, is determined by us.
- If charity begins at the home and just stays there, it goes nowhere (James 2:14-17).
- It can be said that “phileo” love is the love that comes with natural birth, and that “agapao” (agape) love is the love that comes with the new birth (John 3:1-8; Romans 15:1-3; Philippians 2:1-4).
- A body ought to be busy, but not a busybody (2 Thessalonians 3:11-12).
- The person who tells all he knows, doesn’t know all that much (Proverbs 10:19; Ecclesiastes 5:3).
- When action is needed, patience is no longer a virtue (Matthew 20:6-7).
- If you stay on top of things, it is hard for them to get you down.
