Praying To Jesus – Is It Biblical?
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesA querist asks, “Is praying to Jesus biblical? If so please give Biblical authority.”
Praying to Christ is not taught in the New Testament. While the entire Godhead is involved in our prayers, our petitions are to the Father (Matthew 6:9), through the name of Christ (by His authority), who is our mediator (1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 9:15), and with the help of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:26).
Just as baptism is in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, so expressing in Jesus’ name would indicate unity of the Godhead (Matthew 28:19; Acts 4:12; Acts 22:16 cf. Acts 2:21; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; Philippians 2:9-10; Hebrews 1:2; 1 Peter 1:2; 1 Peter 3:22; Revelation 17:14).
