Pointing Our Children To Jesus
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesEach child that is born into this world has the potential for godliness and even greatness in the Lord’s kingdom (note the heroes of faith in Hebrews 11:1-40). However, the traits today’s children need to guide a future society will not come by accident, but through diligent and godly parenting (cf. Genesis 18:17-19; Luke 2:39-52; 2 Timothy 1:3-5; 2 Timothy 3:13-15).
God’s Word calls us to point children to Jesus (Mark 10:14-16; Luke 18:15-17). We are to instruct them in God’s ways (Deuteronomy 6:4-9; cf. Ephesians 6:4), discipline them toward godliness (Proverbs 13:24; Proverbs 19:18; Proverbs 22:15; Proverbs 23:13; Proverbs 29:15; Proverbs 29:17), and love them unconditionally (Luke 15:11-32). Just imagine what a new born baby’s world can be like, if the parents dedicate themselves to godly parenting.
Are we a Christian parent or grandparent? Let’s be willing to teach our children and grandchildren godliness, faith, and uncommon love (2 Peter 1:5-8; cf. 1 Corinthians 13:1-13). Then, when they influence their world, they will reveal God to a new generation (Psalm 78:1-7; cf. Deuteronomy 6:1-2).
