INTRODUCTION: [ beginning of this peace sermon ]

1. Read: Acts 9:31

2. About the Text:

1) On account of Saul’s conversion, the persecution ended.

2) So, peace came to the church, but it was a peace bought with the death of others.

3) This kind of peace is the only lasting kind of peace.

3. Reference to S, T, P, O.

DISCUSSION: [ discussion of this peace sermon ] The perfection of peace gives…

I.   Edification

1. Edification means to build up.

2. The fundamentals were reestablished and they were built up.

3. Ephesians 4:11-16 “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.”

II.  Endurance–they walked

1. In the fear of the Lord.

1) They were obedient to God’s commands.

2) Ecclesiastes 12:13

2. In the comfort of the Holy Spirit.

1) They were comforted by the Spirit’s assurances, and so we are as well.

2) The Psalmist wrote: “Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope. This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me. The proud have had me greatly in derision: yet have I not declined from thy law. I remembered thy judgments of old, O LORD; and have comforted myself. Horror hath taken hold upon me because of the wicked that forsake thy law. Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage. I have remembered thy name, O LORD, in the night, and have kept thy law. This I had, because I kept thy precepts” (Psalm 119:49-56).

III. Expansion

1. The effect of faithful living and true edification is growth in the church.

2. Steady growth occured in the early church when they did simply this, and it will occur when we simply do this as well. “And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved” (Acts 2:44-47).

CONCLUSION: [ end of this peace sermon ]

1. Let us remember the perfection of peace

1) Its edification.

2) Its endurance

3) Its expansion

2. Invitation
