SUBJECT: Bible Study

TITLE: Noble Bereans – A Demonstration of Nobility

PROPOSITION: In this sermon, we will show that praise from God comes from proper conduct in regard to the word–its proving, and its possession.

OBJECTIVES: To help all have a sense of obligation toward engulfing and examining the scriptures.

DISCUSSION:

I.   Praising

1. The Bereans were praised for their honest reaction to the word.

2. Paul preached honesty in receiving the word, “Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God” (2 Corinthians 4:1-2).

II.  Possessing

1. The Noble Bereans received the word “with all readiness of mind.”

2. Paul commended the Thessalonian believers for a similar attitude: “For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe” (1 Thessalonians 2:13)

III. Proving

1. The Bereans examined the scriptures to see if what Paul said was true.

2. Paul writes, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:1-2).

CONCLUSION:

1. Let us remember the Bereans

1) They were praised (for their honesty)

2) They possessed (the word of God)

3) They proved (the preaching of Paul)

2. Invitation
