Involvement In Sin But No Repentance

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

A querist asks, “I was recently asked this question by a friend who attends a Baptist church. The question is, What if one (who is saved) is involved in sin and does not have a chance to repent before he dies, what happens to him?”

According to the Scriptures, if a person is involved in sin, does not repent, and dies in that state, he will be lost or “cut off” (Job 18:5-21; Psalm 94:23; Psalm 101:8; Proverbs 2:22; Proverbs 13:9; Proverbs 24:20; Romans 11:22).

This individual will be facing God’s judgment (John 12:48; John 15:2; 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9; Hebrews 10:26-31; 2 Peter 3:7).

Since your Baptist friend is asking you this question concerning repentance, it would be an excellent opportunity to teach him or her about the Lord’s church (Matthew 16:18); the one He purchased and died for (Acts 20:28); the one of which He is the head (Ephesians 1:22-23); that one body of saved believers (Ephesians 4:4; Ephesians 5:23).
