Heeding Our Own Warnings

When a member of the Lord’s body is overcome by a fault, he may be heading toward an impossible situation, unless he is willing to allow a stronger member help him bear his burden (Gal. 6:1-2-NKJV). People who have marital difficulties, often wait until the wedge of division is too deeply driven before they seek help. After the home is shattered through a divorce, it is often too late to pick up the pieces and attempt to fit them together again. Help should be sought while the home is still intact — not after. Parents who wait until their children have become hardened by the influence of sin, have waited too long to seek the spiritual guidance they so desperately need (Hebrews 3:8-13-NKJV). Backsliding Christians need help before they reach rock-bottom (Hebrews 10:22-27-NKJV).

Paul admonishes us to “bear one another’s burdens.” James tells to confess our faults one to another, and to pray for one another, because the fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much (James 5:16-NKJV). This action should be taken before we end up in the miry quicksand of sin, passing the point of no return (Hebrews 6:4-6-NKJV).

The entire course of humanity could be changed for the better if men would seek help while it can still do some good. It is indeed a great tragedy, when an individual who has a dreaded disease, does not seek the help of a physician at the early stages of the disease, when it could be successfully treated. How much greater then, is the tragedy when we neglect seeking the Great Physician in successfully treating the most horrible disease ever known to mankind — sin! (Matthew 9:10-13-NKJV; cf. 1 Timothy 1:15-NKJV).

Paul was diligent in practicing what he preached when he stated:

“But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified” (1 Corinthians 9:27-NKJV; cf. Colossians 3:1-10-NKJV; Romans 8:12-13-NKJV).

If we warn others about the dangers of sin, should we not heed our own warnings? (cf. Romans 2:17-23-NKJV).
