Genesis 8:6-19

Categories: Bible Study Lessons

I think we can understand that the family of Noah would be excited to leave the ark. It had been their home for over a year but God declared that it was time to leave. They had left behind a world of the deepest depravity but they were opening the door to a restored world. No blasphemous worship, no bands of thieves, no murderers, no buying and selling of justice, that was all gone. Left for them was a fresh start and provision for the legacy of Seth and Enosh (Gen. 4:26) to survive in Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, Zerubbabel, Christ (Matt. 1:1-17) and ultimately, the church (Gal. 3:29).

1 Pet. 3:20-21

Peter makes for us a spiritual application of the scene that Noah and his household finds upon emerging from the ark. Peter says, “…eight persons, were brought safely through water. Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you…” (ESV). Noah found the world cleansed after his ordeal. After baptism a disciple finds his soul clean. Noah and his house survived and all other men died. Through baptism we are saved (Acts 2:38; 22:16; Mark 16:15-16).
