Genesis 8:1-5

Categories: Bible Study Lessons

Previously we have seen the power of God as it relates to punishment, but in our passage we begin a theme that will echo throughout the pages of Holy Writ. Israel would have many occasions to be thankful that God restores. God destroyed the corrupt families, religions, governments and men of the pre-flood earth. Now he begins to undertake a restoration of all these institutions. We’ll find that they won’t stay pure for long, but they’ll maintain order long enough to bring the Messiah into the world. Restoration of the family was brought about by going back to God’s plan, one man with one woman for life. Government was restored to usability by heeding God’s legislation on punishment. Religion was restored by worshiping the one true God and Him alone.

A recognition of the authority of God’s word is essential in driving out corruption in this world. We often ask ourselves how to fix the problems our world faces today. Ah how often man proposes to fix these problems without God. God founded the family, governmental authority and religion and they can only be fixed when restored to what God originally intended. This requires a return to Biblical authority, and so our cry is, “Back to the Bible.” To solve the problem of juvenile delinquency teach the principles of discipline to parents and self discipline to children. Teach modesty, sobriety and abstinence; fairness, thrift and zeal. Restore our young people to what God intended! To solve the problem of government corruption in this country begin to teach the citizens the principles of accountable leadership. Teach them indignation regarding those who seek to lead and have not earned the right by decent living, honesty, and faithfulness.

Nothing is in more need of restoration than religion today. What will today’s denominations look like one hundred years from now traveling their present course? You can’t even count on some to stand for basic decency! Some don’t worship God but the “goddess” Sophia. Some are destroying the family by upholding the “gay” lifestyle. Pure religion can be restored today. It is done when each individual approaches his Bible and reads it, believes it, and obeys it.

Our text teaches us that God has the power to restore.
