Moses turns his notice to features of the physical universe beyond the reach of man. Man has often turned his worship to the sun, moon and stars but we are here told that the God of Sinai is responsible for their creation as well. This fact makes bowing down to them folly. In later years Israel would be guilty of such folly (Ezekiel 8:16).

We take for granted the measures of time we use without taking into consideration the origin of that system. God created time for use in the physical universe. One of the uses of the heavenly bodies is for the purpose of marking time. Where did the seasons come from? The concept of days and years? What of the seven day week? God created them.

Psalm 8:3 “When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?”
